I see 5 commas and 6 columns, not including the commas inside the quotation marks. Yes, the 4-digit numbers should be 1234.5, not "1,234.5" though it's possible the quotation style might be acceptable. I don't recall testing that and I know the style without commas or quotation marks works.

you are right, I forget one column ...

I was able to export the data (179 lines), what's next? Does it works with the lite version? (I would like to see how it works before I buy it)... When I sync, nothing happen.

I've imported successfully the data (179 lines)

I've set my iPhone... email, name ... etc.

Then I try to sync on my iPhone ... but nothing happen, screen stay empty.

Did I forget something?

PS: It should be a good idea to have a personal screen to see what we import, or just have some information about our file ... Is there any way to see or check that? An example, do a request by email, then get an email back where we could see information on the datafile.

I finally find by myself (no support) ...

- First time, you have to create the name of the file on the iPhone (the one you will export by the name of your car)
- save it and sync it from iPhone
- save your data to import in CVS (lost too much time in the date format... should have some example somewhere...)
- then delete local file on iPhone
- ... then sync it (finally !!!)

It is not very user friendly, have no control on the file ans the data

I'm also surprise soft is not intelligent, example for Gas, you have the price you paid and the total capacity of Gas, soft should be able to calculate price per liter (or gallon) or just check it ...

Can service records be imported? If so, how?

I don't think so... there is no service field

Definition of imported data is :

1. Date/Time - Most English date formats are recognized.
2. Vehicle Name - Must match a vehicle name in Gas Cubby.
3. Odometer - must be numeric.
4. Gallons - must be numeric
5. FilledUp - must be 0 - Partial, 1- Full, or 2- Reset
6. Cost per Gallon (optional) - Must be numeric
7. Total Cost (optional) - Must be numeric.
8. Octane (optional) - Must be numeric.

Sorry, guys. We were unable to to tend to the user forum for the past several days. We still want to encourage you guys to help each other as much as is possible, though we're well aware this isn't like a lot of social forums out there.

You're correct - there is no import for service records. It's an increase in complexity we don't want to deal with. For lots of people, .csv imports are a pretty advanced function already. We may include the option for service imports in the future, however, the number of service records is far less than fuel records for obvious reasons so manually entering them shouldn't be an issue.

quick question about importing data.
Can I use a Unix Timestamp (epoch) in the import. or should I convert them to some human readable format?
I browsed over the import posts and didn't find any with unix, epoch or timestamp mentioned. so i'm sorry if this was already answered before.

I bought Gas Cubby today and would like to import some older Gas entries I have in a SQL DB.

looks like a nice app!

-- UPDATE

I just got my data to export into a CSV with the Unix timestamp and tried it. Nope. Seems like of all computer date formats you could check for unix timestamp first? :) I'll figure out a way to convert it line by line to real information.

Importing on a Mac.

Hello, I've tried to read through as much of this thread as I can, but I can't find an answer that i understand yet.

I realize this is not a simple thing, but I don't understand why I can't even export (email) the csv and then import it with out even editing it without getting errors? I'm getting the common "Line must contain either 5 or 8 columns." error.

Should I be able to export and re import with out errors?

When I open the csv file in a text editor this is what I see.
"Type","Date","Vehicle","Odometer","Filled Up","Gallons","Cost/Gallon","Total Cost","Octane","Gas Brand","Location","Tags","Payment Type","Tire Pressure","Notes","Total Cost","Services"
"Service","10/19/09 5:54 PM","Celica","222,800","","0.000","$0.00","$200.00","87","","Harveys","","","0.0","","$200.00","Repairs"
"Gas","10/18/09 6:21 PM","Celica","222,660","Full","0.000","$0.00","$0.00","87","","","","","0.0","","$0.00",""
"","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","",""

Thanks,
james

No. You'll notice export has a lot of columns and data and includes service records. Import only permits 5 or 8 columns and only fuel records and in a different format for reasons of simplicity - import is already a pretty major task.

While we *might* change this in the future, import is really only intended for people who have had a lot of data from the past they'd like to have in Gas Cubby; it's not intended to pass in and out of Gas Cubby.

Import handles a number of timestamp formats. What is your indication that the timestamp format is the issue?
